All IPL hair removal in Perth is not the same. Medical grade IPL hair removal gives superior results over low energy IPL hair removal, IPL home hair removal and SPL hair removal systems. Research supports high energy IPL is required for permanent reduction. Low energy IPL hair removal treatments only result in temporary epilation.

>>>>> IPL PERTH WARNINGS >>>>>>

Around 50% of our new clients have had unsatisfactory results with other clinics or beauty salons offering cheap IPL or IPL discount coupons. Most beauty salons in Perth are not investing the money required to purchase quality IPL equipment which can deliver the energy required for permanent hair reduction. After 6 treatments they can see only a small difference in their hair and are told to purchase another 6 treatments.

Below is a checklist we have put together to help you ascertain if your treatment is working for you.

IPL Hair Removal CHECKLIST

At least 90% of the hair should fall out about 2 weeks after the treatment.

How do I know if my Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatment is working?

At least 90% of the hair should fall out about 2 weeks after the treatment. If you are left with a ‘zebra stripe hair growth’ that’s a warning of an inaccurate treatment..

Re growth should be significantly finer.

Treatments should be spaced at six to eight weekly intervals, in most cases roots will not be forming and ready for treatment before this (4 weeks for facial hair).

Moderate pain similar to being flicked by a rubber band – if there is no pain it probably is not working!

Treatment head should suit the area being treated ie small treatment head for top lip and around the nose and larger treatment head for legs and bikini area, this ensures an accurate treatment.

Be aware of unrealistic promises and guarantees.

Be wary of outlaying large sums of money for pre-paid treatments, you may not be happy with the results or service or the salon may suddenly close.

IPL Hair Removal Safety

Choosing where to have your IPL hair removal can difficult, you want to get effective results so going with the cheapest price is not always the best option and on the other hand you don’t want to get serious unwanted side effects from your treatment.

We use the Lynton MF Medical IPL machine which is registered with the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) number 145476. It is designed for safety and is maintained by Medical Technologies on a regular basis. This is essential to ensure consistent energy levels and safety for your treatment.

Our therapists have undergone accredited IPL training courses and extensive clinic training in IPL hair removal and IPL skin rejuvenation. All therapists have a minimum of 8 years’ experience in performing medical grade IPL treatments.

Laser/ IPL hair removal is very effective at permanently reducing hair growth but permanent hair loss with laser/IPL should never be promised.

In Australia laser/ IPL hair removal machines that are registered with the TGA can only be advertised as “Permanent Hair Reduction”. Generally if sufficient energy is used during a treatment 80% permanent reduction could be expected after 6 to 8 treatments. Remaining hair would be significantly lighter and finer.

Erazer has been established for 12 years and the long term results from our IPL hair removal treatments have been very good to outstanding depending which area we are treating. We have had amazing results with lower leg treatment with clients getting up to 50% reduction from the first session. Most clients having IPL hair removal on their lower legs have only required an average of 4 treatment to achieve 90% hair loss or better and have reported very permanent results. Standard bikini and G-string IPL hair removal also responds well with an average of 4 to 5 sessions to achieve 90% loss. Many people are happy to shave the remaining hair which is lighter, finer and manageable, however further IPL hair removal treatment will continue to eliminate more hairs.

We get fantastic results from other areas too but some hair is influenced by hormones which can result in new hair growth especially on the face. Some girls will experience facial hair on their lip or chin from puberty, while others not until menopause. It’s also common for women to get hair on the back of the legs in their 20s and 30s and for men, back hair to increase or develop at this age.

Of course there are lucky clients that have only required 3 to 4 sessions to get nearly complete hair removal with IPL but these people generally have a finer weaker hair growth. People with 2 to 3 hairs in a single follicle should expect to have more laser/ IPL treatments than the average, however results should still be visible after each treatment.

Many people use the term “”laser hair removal”’ when referring to IPL hair removal, so are they different?

Laser hair removal and IPL hair removal both use light which is absorbed by the melanin in the hair root but the type of light they emit is very different. Laser light is monochromatic (single colour) and non-divergent (travels in a straight beam)

IPL light is flash lamp that emits white light and made is up of multiple light colours, harmful light is filtered out. IPL light is divergent.

In Western Australia the use of laser is regulated and only a doctor can use a class 4 laser so 99% of permanent hair reduction in Western Australia is IPL (intense Puled Light)

Because the industry is unregulated in other states laser is mainly used. This is because once you buy a laser there are no consumables (ongoing running costs) unless the machine breaks down. IPLs however require the replacement of flash lamps on a regular basis which are very costly.

IPL hair removal systems have a larger treatment spot size than laser hair machines removal making them much quicker when treating larger areas such as backs and legs.

The output of energy in both IPL hair removal and laser hair removal is referred to as joules. How many joules can be delivered over an area is referred to as fluence. For example is 100J is delivered in a spot size of 5cm2 the fluence is 20J/cm2. The effectiveness of laser hair removal or IPL hair removal depends on the quality of the machine and the output of joules it can deliver in the selected spot size and the skill of the operator.

All IPL is not the same. Medical grade IPL gives superior results over low energy IPL and SPL systems. Research supports high energy is required for permanent reduction. Low energy treatments may only result in temporary removal of unwanted hair – see our warnings and checklist section for more information.

IPL has many advantages over other forms of hair removal. Shaving, waxing, depilatory creams and electrolysis can be very time consuming and are not suitable for everyone. As IPL only uses light, many of the skin problems associated with other forms of hair removal such as ingrown hairs and rashes are eliminated.

Unwanted black hairs are most easily treated by intense pulse light (IPL) due to the large concentration of melanin in these hairs, which gives an optimal absorption of energy. Grey and white hair has almost no melanin and cannot be effectively treated.

The upper layer of skin, the epidermis, also contains melanin and the concentration increases when the skin is exposed to UV light in the form of a tan. It is therefore essential that sun tanning be avoided during treatment, and sun screen should be worn. Fake tan should not be applied 2 weeks prior to a treatment.
IPL (intense Pulse Light) is a treatment which delivers the cosmetic benefits of light technology and is suitable for unwanted hair removal from the face and body, helping to give you an even skin tone and younger looking skin.

Am I suitable for treatment checklist:

Finer hair to very thick hair

The number of IPL treatments you need will depend on a number of factors such as skin type, hair colour, growth cycle of the hair and the amount of reduction you require. During your consultation these factors are assessed and discussed in detail.

Understanding the growth cycle of the hair treatment.

IPL hair removal involves the use of light to destroy hairs in such a way as to inhibit their re-growth for as long as possible. In order to understand this process it is important to understand the normal hair growth cycle, which occurs in three distinct phases as shown in the image above.

Anagan – the stage at which hairs are in active growth and attached to the papilla at maximum depth within the dermis.
Catagen – the stage at which the hair growth is arrested but the hair continues to be nourished from the papilla.
Telogen – the stage at which the hair growth ceases altogether, the hair detaches from the papilla and contracts to almost one-third its original depth. The hair then falls out and the process begins once more with early anagen phase.
The percentage of hairs in each stage of the cycle, as well as the duration of each phase will vary for different body sites and for different people.

The most important phase for IPL hair removal is early anagen, as the hair is connected to and nourished by the papilla, which is still relatively close to the surface.

At this time it is possible to deposit sufficient energy into the hair shaft, the papilla and the hair bulb to cause permanent damage, which will delay or prevent future hair growth. Hairs in the catagen stage will also be affected by the treatment and will grow back much finer. Most people will notice a significant reduction in thickness after each session. Sessions continue with the volume and thickness of the hair reducing until the desired reduction is obtained, (see image below 12 weeks after 3 treatments).
